The Ölschnitz is a good 18.5 km long right or northern tributary of the White River Main on the northern edge of the Fichtelgebirge.

Course

The Ölschnitz arises in a broader source with source rock of granite in Solg, a district of Munchberg. It opens at Berneck in the White Main. The Ölschnitz flows from Solg from in a wide valley to the village Ölschnitz, then Tennersreuth, crosses under the A 9, once supplied water to the armed Auermühle and reach the hamlet Böseneck the city Gefrees. From there, the windungsreiche Valley is becoming increasingly close, first at short distances in the Entenmühle and the arc around the mountain spur in stone. The steep, rocky narrow valley on the last two kilometers before the spa park of Bad Berneck cuts through a Diabaszug and has a rich flora. It is considered one of the most beautiful valleys in the Fichtelgebirge mountains and is traversed by the western route and the Jean -Paul- way. After nearly 19 kilometers, the Ölschnitz in Bad Berneck empties into the White Main. Takes you there in the middle 1.63 m³ / s of water, almost half more than the White Main 1.12 m³ / s

Economic use

Along the brook many mill wheels were powered by hydropower. 1536 had the Bernecker fishing rights in the " Ölsnitz " 1692 has been called " the best trout stream of Fichtelberg ". 1732 issued by the Bayreuth Margrave for Ölschnitz a security regulation for the freshwater pearl mussel occurring there. Between 1733 and 1810 they earned 6000 beads, pearl fishing was under the supervision of a Perlinspektors, after 1810 the Bavarian forest administration.
