Omega meson

Omega meson ( ω )

The ω - meson and omega meson is a meson, which has spin 1 ( Vektormeson ), is made up of up and down quarks, but not one of the ρ - meson. While ρ mesons namely symmetric flavor wave functions have ( isospin 1), is the flavor wave function of the ω - meson is antisymmetric ( isospin 0).

Description

The ω -meson is in the singlet representation of SU ( 2) -flavor. That is, there is only one ω -meson with the flavor wave function

The ω -meson is therefore often referred to as iso- scalar particles, ie as a scalar under isospin symmetry. Therefore, the ω meson can not be considered as a suggestion of a pion.

The ω -meson decays, for the most part under the strong force into three pions or a pion and a photon.

Experimental measurements

The ω -meson could be detected in experiments since the 1960s.
