Omega Nebula

The Omega Nebula ( also referred to as Messier 17 or NGC 6618, rarely Swan Nebula or Horseshoe Nebula) is an emission nebula in the northern part of the constellation Sagittarius. It has an apparent magnitude of 6.00 mag and a diameter of 11 '.

He is excited by the radiation of young stars located inside the lights and lit in a red to pink color. It is located in the Sagittarius arm of the Milky Way, a very foggy star-forming region, and extends in the visible range over 15 light-years. The matter accumulation, however, extends much further beyond a diameter of 40 light years. There still are stars in the H II region, which is also the young stars show 35 that are hidden as open cluster in the fog. The fog covers about 800 solar masses. M17 can easily be found in the sky and is located in the vicinity of the Eagle Nebula (M16 ).
