Ömer Diler

Ömer Diler (* 1945 in Istanbul, † March 18, 2005 ) was a Turkish numismatists.

Life

Ömer Diler was born the son of a drug producers and studied chemical engineering. When his father died, his sons sold the factory and Ömer Diler could retire into private life of his share. He went to live in Istanbul and Alanya.

Numismatics

As Diler 1972 an Ottoman gold coin was given, he began to be interested in numismatics. His first area of interest was accordingly the coins of the Ottomans. He could take thousands of gold, silver and copper coins in appearances before they were melted down by peddlers. Because of this wealth of experience he learned the knowledge of a numismatist, for example, the distinction between genuine and counterfeit coins and the recognition of rare coins. His interests soon expanded to other areas of the Islamic numismatics. He learned the Ottoman language and Arabic, to read coins and lay over the years a growing library. He dealt with coins of Rum Seljuk, the Beyliks, the Ilchanen and the Ottomans.

Shortly before the completion of his two books on ilchanische coins and mints of Islam he died in Istanbul from lung cancer.

Even his publication Titles and Epithets of Islamic Towns considered a good reference book. His posthumous out given by his wife Emine Only Diler, Garo Kürkman and Johann -Christoph Hinrichs book ilKhan - Coinage of the Persian Mongols is considered a well- researched work on the 18 rulers of the dynasty of the Ilkhanate and the State of the Ilkhanate, the 1255-1357 existed, and the coins of this Mongol dynasty. In the book 1676 coins of the dynasty are described in detail and illustrated. Posthumously published in 2009 his book on Islamic mints.
