On Writing

The life and writing ( in the original: On Writing ) is a non-fiction book of the American writer Stephen King. It was published by the Scribner publishing house in New York in 2000. During the same year published the Ullstein the German translation of Andrea Fischer.

Content

The book is divided into two halves.

In the first half of the book King expresses about his childhood and his studies and highlights impressive experiences or events produced that have shaped him. King writes about the way the emergence of some of his novels and also addresses his drug and alcohol addiction.

In the second half of the book King provides guidance and support for readers who want to begin even to write novels. The peculiarities and particularities of his literary style are explained. Stephen King discusses further passages from works of some well-known writers such as John Steinbeck and George V. Higgins.

After the two halves follows an addendum in which King describes the accident whose victim he was in the middle of the development process of the book and the accounts for the break between the first and the second half.
