O’odua People’s Congress

The group O'odua People's Congress ( OPC) pursues the unity and autonomy of the descendants of Oduduwa, the forefather of the Yoruba.

The group was formed in August 1994 in the wake of the cancellation of the first democratic presidential elections, which were won by Moshood Abiola Yoruba. After own information, the OPC has more than five million members in the south-western states of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti in Kwara and Kogi as well as in Central Nigeria.

As of 1999, the OPC followed the self-determination of the Yoruba with vigil distinctive activities, possibly inspired by the popularity of the Bakassi Boys in southeastern Nigeria. However, the OPC will also be responsible for armed attacks on other ethnic groups, particularly in Lagos.
