Oostflakkee

( Listen / i?) Oostflakkee was a town in the Dutch province of South Holland with 10402 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2012). Since 1 January 2013 is part of the municipality of Goeree -Overflakkee.

Location and economic

The (former) municipality on the island of Goeree -Overflakkee was the southernmost municipality of the province of South Holland. Your fertile soils consist of clay.

Overflakkee is crossed by the N59 which connects the area to the node Hellegatsplein about the Haring Vliet bridge in the A29 motorway towards the south with Dinteloord ( municipality of Steenbergen (North Brabant) ) and to the north of Rotterdam.

History

In 1284 Albrecht van Voorne bought the resultant here " glory" Grijsoord of Floris V, Count of Holland. The area was then an area of ​​mudflats used only by shepherds and fishermen. Achthuizen was settled by seasonal workers from North Brabant, which explains that this is the only village of the municipality is predominantly Catholic.
