Reinholds orchid (Ophrys reinholdii )

Reinholds orchid (Ophrys reinholdii ) is a plant of the genus Ragwurzen ( Ophrys ) in the orchid family ( Orchidaceae).

Description

This perennial herbaceous plant has two ellipsoidal to spherical tubers as outlasting. It reaches heights of growth of 20 to 60 centimeters. At the base of the stem are one to two scale leaves. Three to six leaves are grouped in a basal rosette, and one to two differ -ended bay leaves further up the stalk. The approximately 25 cm long, loose inflorescence contains two to ten flowers. The egg-shaped to lanceolate sepals appear pink to red, rarely whitish or green. The petals are hairy ( brownish ) pink to dark green, rarely greenish. The deeply lobed lip appears, however, dark brown purple black and up. Of which discontinued sharp is a bright drawing on the middle lobe, which does not reach to the base of the lip. The side lobes of the lip are densely covered with light hair. The column tapers not towards the base, it has the base no eye-like thickenings.

Dissemination

Ophrys reinholdii is, Iraq and Iran spread from southwestern Balkans to Greece and the Aegean Islands to Turkey. It is found on nutrient-poor grasslands, Garriguen, sparse forests and maquis with moderately dry lime or sandstone soils. The sites range from full sun to partial shade.

Pollination

As pollinators reinholdii bees were observed in the genus Ophrys Eupalovskia at.

Systematics and botanical history

As a first description of the way of publication H. Fleischmanns is often given in 1908, during an earlier IPNI, datable to 1882 Pierre Edmond Boissier publication indicates. The species is very diverse and is partially divided into different subspecies or even separate species. Buttler and Pedersen and Faurholdt distinguish subsp next Ophrys reinholdii. reinholdii still Ophrys reinholdii subsp. straussii, Govaerts lists reinholdii subsp as a third subspecies Ophrys. antiochiana.

Ophrys reinholdii subsp. reinholdii

The stems of this subspecies grows tall 15 to 30, rarely 50 cm. The inflorescence comprises 2 to 10 flowers. This March to May with a peak in April flowering subspecies are found up to an altitude of 1300 meters. The distribution area extends from southern Albania on almost all Greece, the Ionian and Aegean islands to the southwest of Turkey. An isolated occurrence to exist in southeastern Bulgaria.

Ophrys reinholdii subsp. straussii

The stems of this subspecies grows 30 to 60 cm high, and the inflorescence has 5-8 flowers, these are smaller than in the previous subspecies and bloom a little later on. It occurs at an altitude between 200 and 1500 meters. The distribution area extends across the southern Anatolia, Cyprus, Iraq and Iran. Plants of Rhodes and Chios are by Pedersen and Faurholdt to subsp. reinholdii.

Ophrys reinholdii subsp. antiochiana

From Baumann and Künkele described in 1986 as Ophrys antiochiana and provided by Baumann and Lawrence as a subspecies of Ophrys reinholdii 2005, these plants come from Syria and the neighboring Turkish province of Hatay.
