Opuntia azurea is a flowering plant in the genus Opuntia ( Opuntia ) from the cactus family ( Cactaceae ).

Description

Opuntia azurea compact dwarf grows like a tree, is upright and reaches stature heights of 1 to 2 meters. A strain is present. The Glauk greenish blue, circular to obovate drive sections 10 to 15 centimeters long and have just such diameter. The numerous glochids are dark. The one to three unequal, somewhat spreading spines are 2-3 inches long and are aged almost black.

The flowers are bright yellow. The red, ovoid to spherical, unbedornten fruits are edible.

Systematics and distribution

Opuntia azurea is common in the Mexican states of San Luis Potosi, Zacatecas, Durango and Aguascalientes.

The first description was in 1909 by Joseph Nelson Rose. A synonym is nomenklatorisches Opuntia violacea var azurea (Rose) Lodé (1996, nom. Inval. ICBN Articles 33.3, 43.1).
