Orchester Musikkollegium Winterthur

The Musikkollegium Winterthur ( Winterthur City Orchestra before 2000 ) from Winterthur is one of the oldest orchestras in Switzerland. It gained especially in the first half of the 20th century Europe notoriety.

The orchestra gives about 70 concerts a year, 40 of them in the City Hall in Winterthur. The focus is due to the size of 50 musicians and musicians alongside the works of the 20th century in the classical and early romantic.

History

The music college itself was founded in 1629 by the chaplain Hans Heinrich Meyer and then had the goal to promote the church singing. At the beginning of the music society comprised about 30 to 40 people, the inclusion criteria included a good voice and mastery of an instrument. Striking while the proportion of Sulzer, Hegner and Steiner (the three most famous gender Winterthur at the time) as well as the clergy, which declined in the 18th century. So the Musikkollegium visited initially closed the services. Also changed the focus of the music in the 18th century by the Church to instrumental music.

The orchestra was founded in 1875 as a city orchestra Winterthur into being by the conductor and then director of the Music College Georg Wilhelm Rauchenecker. In the first half of the 20th century, the city orchestra was primarily funded by the patron Werner Reinhart and famous all over Europe in the series below the conductor Hermann Scherchen. From this period over 120 world premieres, composers such as Hindemith, Honegger, Schoeck, Schoenberg, Strauss, Stravinsky and Webern wrote pieces for the city orchestra.

2000, the city orchestra Winterthur was renamed Musikkollegium Winterthur, whereby the reference is shown more clearly Musikkollegium. The orchestra has still an excellent reputation, which still comes from the heyday in the first half of the 20th century.
