Jac van Steen

Jac van Steen ( born 1956 in Eindhoven ) is a Dutch conductor.

He studied music theory and orchestral and choral conducting at the Brabant Conservatory of Music.

From 1986 to 1990 van Steen was conductor and music director of the Bach Choir Nijmegen. From 1989 until he was music director of Het Nationale Ballet in Amsterdam. Since 1992, he was in The Hague at the Royal Conservatory. From 1997 to 2002 he was chief conductor of the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra. From 2002 to 2005 he was music director of the Weimar National Theatre and principal conductor of the Staatskapelle Weimar. From 2002 to 2008 he worked as chief conductor of the orchestra Musikkollegium Winterthur. Since 2005, van Steen is invited as guest conductor of the BBC National Orchestra Wales.

From 2008 to 2013 van Steen was music director of the Dortmund Philharmonic.
