Dortmunder Philharmoniker

Dortmund Philharmonic Concert and opera orchestra of the Theater Dortmund. With the opening of the Konzerthaus Dortmund, the Dortmund Philharmonic received a new concert hall.

History

The Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra was founded as a club in 1887. They were active until the theater was founded in 1904 in different venues.

From this point, was added a regular opera service which also led to the increase in staff.

Thanks to the organizational and functional changes also changed the name of the orchestra, from the chapel above Huettner Municipal Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra of the City of Dortmund to the Dortmund Philharmonic. Program and quality of the orchestra were significantly shaped by the respective band leader, often many years working in the early years of the orchestra.

The orchestra has grown to 102 musicians, and has an excellent reputation among the great concert halls and opera orchestras in North Rhine -Westphalia.

In October 2006, the orchestra has performed under Arthur Fagen in China, including Shanghai and Beijing. In addition, Arthur Fagen led the orchestra to guest performances by Salzburg ( Grosses Festspielhaus ) in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Brussels ( Palais des Beaux Arts).

From 2008 to 2013, the Dutch Jac van Steen led the Dortmund Philharmonic music director. His successor is since the beginning of season 2013/14 is the former Stuttgart musical director Gabriel Feltz.
