Orchipedum (orchid)

Orchipedum plantaginifolium

The genus Orchipedum from the orchid family consists of three types of herbaceous plants. They come from Southeast Asia.

Description

The Orchipedum species have a creeping rhizome with a few internodes. The above-ground shoots are occupied with a few leaves. The leaf blade is somewhat asymmetrical, oblong- lanceolate to elliptic. At the base it narrows to a short petiole, which includes the shoot tubular. The leaves are distributed along the stem axis. The leaf color is green.

The terminal inflorescence is unbranched inflorescence axis, bracts, ovary and the outer sides of the sepals are hairy. On Peduncle are some bracts; the bracts of the flowers are about as long as pedicel and ovary together. The ovary is twisted, the flowers are therefore 'upside. The three outer petals ( sepals ) are all shaped the same, the lateral sepals cover the base of the lip. The lateral inner petals ( petals ) are narrower and adhere to the edge of the upper sepal. The lip has at the base of a sac-like spur, which branched out, glandular appendages are. The lip is divided into three parts: the base is approximately square in shape, filled to the surface with two blades, fringed at the edges partially or thickened cartilaginous. The central portion of the lip is very short, and narrow. The front part is undivided or bilobed, anchor-shaped to heart-shaped. The column is fused with its lower half at the edges of the lip. The column is narrow and slightly curved at the front of it has two lateral appendages. The scar consists of a contiguous area. The stamen is narrow oval in outline, it includes two club-shaped pollinia, which are connected via a pedicel with the viscid disc ( Viscidium ). The separation between scar tissue and stamen ( rostellum ) is triangular, zweigezähnt deep after removing the Viscidiums.

Dissemination

Orchipedum is distributed with three species in Southeast Asia: Orchipedum echinatum is known only from Vietnam, Orchipedum wenzelii of the Philippines, the area of Orchipedum plantaginifolium ranges from southern Thailand on the Malay Peninsula and Sumatra up to Java. The species grow in the shade of evergreen forests at altitudes 60-1000 meters, Orchipedum echinatum is known only from altitudes 1000-1100 meters.

Orchipedum is echinatum designated by Averyanov to be very rare, even Orchipedum is plantaginifolium on Java, according to Comber rare.

Botanical history and systematics

Orchipedum is classified within the tribe Cranichideae in the subtribe Goodyerinae. After Dressler can this be further subdivided into two groups; Orchipedum stands together with the majority of species which do not have two clearly separate stigmatic surfaces. Orchipedum was described in 1829 by Jacob Gijsbert Samuel van Breda. The name derives from the Greek word orchis for " testicles " ( here: Orchid ) and Pedilon, "shoe" from and well describes the shape of the lip. Related to Orchipedum could be Herpysma longicaulis.

The following species are counted to the genus Orchipedum:

  • Orchipedum echinatum Aver. & Averyanova
  • Orchipedum plantaginifolium Breda
  • Orchipedum wenzelii J.J.Sm.
