Orcinas

Orcinas is a commune with 31 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Drôme in the Rhône -Alpes; it belongs to the canton in the arrondissement of Nyons Dieulefit.

Geography

Orcinas located on an average altitude of 612 meters above sea level on the southern edge of the Drôme Provençale, 12- kilometers from Dieulefit and 37 kilometers east of Montelimar. The neighboring municipalities are Comps, Vesc, Bourdeaux and Crupies.

Demographics

History

In the 8th century villa Orsiano, 1507 mentioned as Orcinassium, is likely the place name from the Latin ursinus, Bear, derived. The inhabitants are called Orcinassois.

Originally fief of the Comte de Valentinois it fell in 1342 to the Lords of Mirabel -en- Diois and 1541 Jean de Clion. In 1640 it was owned by the family Lattier
