Ord is a city and the county seat ( county seat ) of the Valley counties in the U.S. state of Nebraska.

History

1874, the city was built on land that had previously belonged to the Burlington & Missouri River Railroad Company. Namesake of the place was Edward Otho Cresap Ord, in whose honor the city got its name. Within a year, Ord became the county seat of Valley County, and the first school and the first courthouse was built. 1880, the population had risen to over 250. As an officially registered is the town since 1881. In this and the following year there were two fires in which some of the newly built houses were destroyed. The Ord Quiz, the city got its first newspaper in 1882 and six years later volunteer fire department was established. The city continued to prosper as an economic location. In 2007, an ethanol plant of U.S. BioEnergy Corporation was built in Ord.

Ord is located on the " North Loup River" and has connection to the Nebraska State Route 11 and the Nebraska State Route 70

Demography

According to census of 2000, Ord has 2269 inhabitants, of whom 1028 men and 1241 women.
