Orenhofen

Orenhofen near the Kylltal in the Eifel is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality memory.

History

Already in the year 953 Orenhofen as a possession of the abbey Oeren (St. Irminen called ) is mentioned. The basic rule and bailiwick was exercised by the Abbey of St. Irminen. By the end of the 18th century belonged Orenhofen Scharfbillig to the Luxembourg rule and was part of 1798 at the Canton Dudeldorf in the forests department. Then Orenhofen came to Prussia, and in 1946 after the constitution of the country Rhineland- Palatinate. Since November 7, 1970 Orenhofen due to a municipal reorganization belongs to the municipality memory; before there was an administrative affiliation to the Official Schleidweiler -Rodt in Zemmer.

Prove shards finds that existed in Roman times in Orenhofen potteries. The pottery is an ancient memory of a branch of industry which no longer exists today. To 1850/1860 iron ore deposits were exploited. Due to the low iron content of the bricks, the degradation, however, was hardly worth. Until well into the first half of the 20th century was in Orenhofen a so-called " Pfeifenofen ". Particularly clay pipes were made in it.

Until November 7, 1970 Orenhofen belonged to the district of Trier -Saar castle and was incorporated into the district Bitburg -Prüm with the same date, newly formed.
