Herforst in the Eifel is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality memory.

Location

The local church Herforst is about 5 km east of memory. The local community is greatly influenced by resident here armed forces of the airfield Spangdahlem. History

The surroundings of Herforst was inhabited in pre-Roman times. This is demonstrated by several burial mounds that have been explored archaeologically since the late 19th century.

Herforst belonged until 1795 to rule Seinsfeld in the Duchy of Luxembourg.

Parish Church of St. Eligius

The minutes of the Visitation of 1570 has a built already in the Gothic chapel for Herforst. This was demolished in 1729 to build a new building on the same site. Roman Langmauerstrasse

The long wall is the largest Roman building in the Trier region and ran through Herforst. It was a 72 km long wall, which included an area of 220 km ². The only two inscriptions of this building were found in Herforst. There are two building inscriptions that prove that military units have built the wall. With the help of inscriptions and by the evaluation of wall art, the construction of the wall could be dated to the second half of the 4th century.
