Oriole Records (U.S.)

Oriole Records was an American record label of the 1920s and 1930s. Later Oriole belonged to the American Record Corporation.

History

Oriole Records was founded in 1921. From the beginning, existed between the label and the department store chain McCrory 's an exclusive contract, since all plates could be purchased only at McCrory. In the first months of the company's history, the plates were pressed from the Cameo Record Company. A large proportion of the catalog was acquired by other labels and sold under its own name. The plates, which cost only 25 cents, were in qualitative terms, below the average of the time. Oriole was known to publish on the A- and B-side pieces of different artists.

Part of the ARC Records

From the catalog number 250 all the plates of Plaza Music produced and distributed by Banner Records. Along with Banner, Plaza, Cameo, Challenge and other low - labels the company merged in 1928 to form the American Record Corporation, the ARC Records. As part of this company published Oriole also sheets and led from 1930 additionally a country or hillbilly and blues catalogs.

Due to the Depression of the record industry and the rise of the radio end of the 1930s lost Oriole strong economic strength. The last panels of the label appeared in January 1937. A few months later, ARC was sold to the Columbia Broadcasting System.
