Ormond Stone

Ormond Stone ( born January 11, 1847 in Pekin, Illinois, † January 17, 1933 in Centreville, Virginia ) was an American astronomer and mathematician.

Ormond Stone was from 1875 to the director of the Cincinnati Observatory in Ohio. In 1882 he was offered the directorship of the new McCormick Observatory of the University of Virginia. In 1884 he founded with his own money the Annals of Mathematics, which is one of the most important journals of mathematics today.

He discovered in his long career as an astronomer 88 objects in the NGC catalog and 7 of the index catalog.
