The Orange Star of Bethlehem ( Ornithogalum dubium ) is a plant from the family of asparagus plants ( Asparagaceae ).
Description
The Orange Star of Bethlehem is a perennial, herbaceous plant onion, achieved the stature heights of usually 15 to 30 centimeters. The 3-8 leaves measure about 10 x 2 inches and are ciliated at the edge. The flower is orange, very rarely white, and has a diameter of 20 to 25 millimeters. More than 20 flowers are arranged in a dense cylindrical raceme. The pens are very short.
The flowering period extends to the natural location of July to September.
Occurrence
The Orange Star of Bethlehem comes in South Africa in the Cape Province.
Use
The Orange Star of Bethlehem is rarely used as an ornamental plant for summer discounts as well as frequently as a pot plant. As a pot plant flowers the kind of April to June. As a cut flower it holds for several weeks and is known by the name " Gärtnertod ". The plant is not hardy. The bulbs of outdoor plants should be dug in the fall and stored protected from frost during the winter.
