The Narbonne- Star of Bethlehem ( Ornithogalum narbonense ) is a plant from the family of asparagus plants ( Asparagaceae ).

Description

The Narbonne- Milchstern is reached centimeters a perennial, herbaceous bulbous plant, the plant height usually 40 to 60 (80). The leaves measure 20-40 × 0.6 to 1.1 inches and is dried up to bloom time usually. The inflorescence is a 25 to 75 - flowered, elongated grape. The flowers have a diameter up to 5 cm, are upright and do not smell. The bracts extend beyond the flower buds. The lower flower stalks are about 1.5 inches long. The cover sheets are slightly shorter. The petals are white milk inside, outside they have a narrow, tongue-shaped and uniformly green stripes. They are 11 to 14 millimeters in size and the edges are rarely rolled after flowering. The ovary has each subject 5-7 ovules and is green, are oval, 2.5 to 5 mm long and shorter than the white and thread-like stylus to the bottom. The surface of the seed is pigmented granular - papillose.

The flowering period extends from April to July.

Occurrence

The Narbonne- Milchstern comes in the Mediterranean, Turkey, Armenia and northwestern Iran prior to semi-dry grasslands, cultivated fields, fallow land and waste places. In the southeast of its range it is found at altitudes up to 3000 meters, on Crete to 1150 meters.

Use

The Narbonne- Milchstern is rarely used as an ornamental plant for heathland and the beautiful gardens.
