Ornithogalum saundersiae

Giant Chincherinchee ( Galtonia saundersiae ) is a plant from the family of asparagus plants ( Asparagaceae ).

Description

Giant Chincherinchee is a perennial, herbaceous bulbous plant, the plant height usually 30 to 100 (150 ) achieves centimeter. The leaves measure 60 x 5 inches and are less than half as long as the stem. The upper leaf surface shining dark green. The inflorescence consists of numerous flowers and is flat conical. The flower stems are long. The tepals are white, 10 to 15 millimeters long and get to the fruit time and bent back. The ovary is black green.

The flowering period extends from June to August.

Occurrence

Giant Chincherinchee comes in South Africa in eastern Transvaal, Natal, Swaziland and Zululand on rocky glades.

Use

Giant Chincherinchee is rarely used as an ornamental plant for borders and as a cut flower.
