Oscar Jacobsson

Oscar Jacobsson ( born November 7, 1889 in Gothenburg, † December 25, 1945 in Solberga församling, Västergötland ) was a Swedish cartoonist; his character, " Adamson " became known internationally.

Jacobsson began as a political cartoonist in 1918 published his first newspaper illustrations. In 1920 he was asked to draw for the famous Swedish newspaper Söndags - Nisse comic strips. As a result, was " Adamson ", the figure of a small, cigar smoking man who has to deal with pitfalls of everyday life. Cartoons with this almost always silent figure achieved in the follow- wide popularity, not only in Europe but also the U.S., China and Japan ( in the English language under the name " Silent Sam ").

1965 called the Swedish Academy of Comic Art ( SACA ) in honor Jacobssons the " Adamson Award" in life, which is awarded to a Swedish and an international comic artists annually.
