Oshin of Korikos

Oschin of Korykos († February 26, 1329 in Sis ) was Lord of Korykos and 1320-1329 Regent of the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia for the minor King Leon V..

Life

He was the son of the historian Hethum of Korykos and his wife Isabella of Ibelin.

When King Oschin of Armenia in 1320, died Oschin was used by Korykos as regent for his eleven-year old nephew King Leon V.. It was probably the king Oschin had previously poisoned. And he was probably also responsible for the death of Princess Isabella of Armenia, the sister of King Oschins and two of her sons, which he had overcome to consolidate his own power. To further consolidate his power, he married in 1321 his daughter Alix with the now twelve -year-old King Leon V.

During his reign, the kingdom was threatened by the Egyptian Mamluks and the Mongol Ilchanreich.

As Leon V. came of age, and even took over the government of the kingdom, he had Oschin of Korykos kill on February 26, 1329 in Sis and also his wife, Oschins daughter Alix. Oschins head was sent to the Mongolian Ilkhan Abu Sa'id.

Marriages and descendants

He was married twice. In his first marriage he married around 1308 Margaret of Ibelin, Balian of Ibelin 's daughter (* 1240, † 1302), Seneschal of Cyprus, and his wife Alix of Lampron. With her he had a daughter, Alix, whom he married with King Leo V, and a son, Hethum, who died in 1325 young. His marriage to Margaret was annulled in 1311.

In 1320 he married his second wife Joanna of Anjou, the king Oschins widow and daughter of Philip I, Prince of Taranto and Albania, as well as Latin Titularkaisers of Constantinople Opel. Johanna took upon marriage to the name Eirene. Their daughter, Maria, was washed successively with two Armenian kings of Cilicia, Konstantin V. and Constantine VI. married.
