Oskar Böhme

Oskar Böhme ( born February 24, 1870 in Potschappel; † uncertain: in 1938 in Orenburg ) was a German trumpet player and composer.

Life

From his father, a musician at the local miners' orchestra and later a music teacher in Dresden, Oskar Böhme received his first musical training. From 1885 to 1894 he toured as a soloist throughout Europe. During this time he also studied composition at the Hamburg Conservatory and Berlin. After that, he was until 1896 a member of the opera orchestra in Budapest. He returned to Germany, studied at the Leipzig Academy of Music music theory, composition and piano, where he made his statements.

1897 went Böhme as cornetist at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. A condition of his employment was the adoption of Russian citizenship. 24 years Böhme was working there. From 1921 to 1930 Boehme taught at the local military college. From 1930 to 1934 he was a member of the theater orchestra.

Because of its German origin Oskar Böhme was a victim of the Great Terror, the persecution campaign by Josef Stalin in the following years. About Boehme's whereabouts can only speculate until today. He should have been in exile to Orenburg in the Urals at a music school lessons. There was evidence that he had died there in 1938. However, both the exact time, and the circumstances of his death are not known. A witness later claimed that he had never seen Böhme 1941 in a labor camp in Turkmenistan. Could not be proved that information.
