Edward Tarr

Edward Hankins Tarr (mostly Edward H. Tarr, born June 15, 1936 in Norwich, Connecticut) is an American trumpet virtuoso and musicologist. He is known in particular for his contribution to the revival of historical brass instruments (eg Baroque trumpet and zinc) and their style of play.

Life

Tarr was a student of orchestral trumpeter Roger Voisin (Boston Symphony Orchestra ), and Adolph Herseth (Chicago Symphony Orchestra ). In 1959 he moved to Europe to study at the University of Basel musicology. From 1972 to 2001 he taught both at the Music Academy of Basel and at the Schola Cantorum in Basel. From 1985 to 2004 he was director of the Trumpet Museum of Bad Säckingen. Since 2005 he has held a professorship at the University of Music Karlsruhe. Edward H. Tarr lives with his wife IRMTRAUD Tarr in the district Eichsel of Rheinfelden (Baden).

Work

Edward H. Tarr's repertoire includes priorities from the Baroque period and the Romantic and contemporary compositions. The composer Mauricio Kagel dedicated to him a number of works. As a musicologist is Tarr editor of numerous original text versions of well-known trumpet concertos, as well as the complete edition of the works of Giuseppe Torelli trumpet. Furthermore, he worked ( with Yamaha in Hamamatsu ) and on the reconstruction of historical brass instruments ( with Meinl and Lauber in Geretsried and Adolf Egger and son in Basel) with the development of new instrument models. As an author he has written several books, including the standard work " The Trumpet".
