Osman Sabri

Osman Sebri (* 1905 in colic, Adiyaman province, † 1993 in Damascus ) was a Kurdish writer, poet and politician. He was the founder of the first Kurdish party in Syrian Kurdistan in 1957.

Biography

As a result of the Sheikh Said rebellion Sebri Osman was arrested and imprisoned in 1928 in the prison of Denizli. After he was released, he went in 1929 to Syria and Iraq. During his stay, he learned many intellectual Syria Kurds such as Celadet Ali Bedirxan, Cegerxwîn, Qedrîcan and Tîrêj know. Osman Sebri participated in the Ararat revolt, but was imprisoned by the British authorities in Mosul and Baghdad. Despite the release of Osman Sebris 1935 he was sent by the French in 1936 into exile in Madagascar. A year later he came to Lebanon, where he was a member of the Xoybûn ( in German: "independence" ) and was helped with the Kurdish publications in Beirut. In 1954 Osman Sebri published a Kurdish Latin alphabet. He was also a founder of the Party in 1957 resulting Partiya Demokrata Kurd li suriye ( in German: Kurdistan Democratic Party of Syria). There he was elected General Secretary. Until 1972 he was imprisoned more than 20 times because of his activities.
