Oswaldo Sánchez

Oswaldo Javier Sanchez Ibarra ( born September 21, 1973 in Guadalajara, Jalisco ) is a Mexican footballer, who is currently in his home at Santos Laguna under contract.

Career

On October 30, 1993 debuted the 20 -year-old Oswaldo for Atlas de Guadalajara. In the summer of 1996, the goalkeeper moved to Club América, one of the most popular clubs in Mexico. During this time he was called to the national team coach Ricardo Antonio La Volpe. In summer 1999, Sánchez moved to Chivas de Guadalajara América, where he remained seven years, and became the idol of the fans. Immediately after winning the Torneo Apertura 2006, he moved to Santos Laguna, where he signed a three-year contract. With 1.8 million dollar annual salary he was at that time the highest paid footballers of Mexico and the goalkeeper with the most appearances for the Mexican national team.

National

He was at the 1998 World Cup and at the 2002 World Championships respectively as a substitute, even as the second and once as third-choice goalkeeper this. With the Mexican national team, he won the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2003 and was voted the best goalkeeper. At the Confederations Cup 2005, he was allowed all the games of Mexico contest. The team finished fourth, but he was re-elected the best goalkeeper of the tournament. With the Football World Cup 2006 in Germany, Oswaldo Sánchez played all our games for Mexico. However, its use was threatened shortly before the start of the tournament, as his father had died and he traveled back from the German training camp for the funeral to Mexico. Only shortly before the first game of his team against Iran, he returned to Germany.

Others

It is called San Oswaldo by his fans, which means as much as Holy Oswaldo.
