Othmar Schimkowitz

Othmar Schimkowitz ( born October 2, 1864 in Tarts, county Komárom, † April 24, 1947 in Graz) was a Hungarian sculptor.

Life

Schimkowitz studied from 1886 to 1892 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, worked in New York in the studio of the Austro- American sculptor Karl Bitter, but also in Chicago and Philadelphia. From 1895 he had a studio in Vienna. From 1897 he was a member of the Vienna Secession, and was its president from 1929 to 1930.

At the Technical University of Vienna, he taught from 1914 to 1934 plastic design and model.

The painter and graphic artist Herbert Schimkowitz (1898-1938) was his son.
