Otto Kruger

Life and career

Otto Kruger was a great-nephew of long-time South African President Paul Kruger, who is mainly known for the Kruger telegram. He tried in childhood, first as a musician, then as an actor. At the age of 15 he first appeared on Broadway and had greater success there soon. 1915 Kruger was in The Runaway Wife in a small supporting role, his film debut. In the 1930s, Kruger reached the height of its popularity and stepped on, among other things on the side of Myrna Loy in The Boxer and the Lady, with whom he also starred in The Thin Man, 1939, Case 3. Notably, Kruger was seen in films as an elegant villain, but occasionally he also played likeable roles. He worked mostly with thrillers and melodramas, but did with Dracula's daughter also take a trip into the horror genre.

In the Alfred Hitchcock thriller saboteurs he played in 1942 the role of the villain rich ranch owner Charles Tobin. Two years later, Kruger was in Cover Girl to see who recognizes his old high school sweetheart as a publisher in Rita Hayworth figure. In 1946 he had a minor supporting role in the Western Duel in the Sun, with twelve clock noon he played seven years later, in another classic Western, namely as a justice of the peace Percy Kittrick. Kruger also appeared in several television series such as Dr. Kildare on (1962 ) or Bonanza (1963 ) before 1964 passed into private life.

Otto Kruger died in 1974 on his 89th birthday after several strokes. He was married for many years with Sue MacManamy, their daughter was the actress Ottilie Kruger ( 1926-2005 ).

Kruger has two stars on the "Walk of Fame", for feature films at the 1735 Vine Street and for television films on the Hollywood Boulevard 6331st
