Otto Vellingk

Otto Vellingk (* 1649 in Kingissepp, Ingria, † May 19, 1708 in Stockholm), was since 1706 Graf, since 1698 the Swedish general and since 1705 Privy.

Life

He was born the son of Colonel Otto Vellingk and Kristina Manner Shield. In 1664 he became a lieutenant in a stationed in Bremen- Verden Swedish regiment. He went in 1666 in French service over. In 1670 he was promoted to colonel in the French army. During the Scanian War against Denmark he voluntarily took part in the Battle of Halmstad, where he commanded a squadron and was then promoted to colonel of the Swedish army. He then took part in the Battle of Lund. Since 1678 was Vellingk colonel in Hämeenlinna Regiment, and in 1683 he became general of cavalry. In 1687, he was appointed governor of Gastrikland, Hälsingland, Medelpad, Jämtland, Härjedalen and Lapland, a post which he exchanged in 1693 against the Governor-General of Scania. In 1698 he exchanged this place again for the post of Governor-General of Ingria and Kexholm longer.

In the Battle of Narva in 1700, he led the right wing. He also took in the battle of the Daugava in 1701 in part, as at the Battle of Klissow 1702 and at the Battle of Punitz in 1704. Vellingk In 1705, the Privy Council. He was raised in 1706 in the rank of count.
