Oxford Tower, Warsaw

The Oxford Tower is an office skyscraper in Warsaw. It was built in the 1970s as the headquarters of the Commercial Bank and the foreign trade agency, and thus one of the few modern skyscrapers of the first generation in the city.

History

Construction of the building lasted from 1975 until 1979. Built in the international style by a Swedish company Tower was the first of a planned group of high-rise buildings that should the west of the Palace of Culture arise ( center Zachodnie ) and so in conjunction with the eastward located Ściana Wschodnia the dominance of the Palace of Culture should weaken in the city 's skyline. As a result still was only 150 meters away Centrum LIM; further implementation of the original plan failed due to financial problems.

The Oxford Tower is located at Ulica Tytusa Chałubińskiego 8 in the downtown district of Warsaw. The architects were Jerzy Skrzypczak, Halina Świergocka - Kaim and Wojciech Grzybowski. First, the building was named Intraco II ( the high-rise Intraco I had been built a few years earlier in the north of the city). Later, the high-rise after the primary users and the large logo on the facade, the Elektrim SA, also known as ELEKTRIM Tower.

In the movie " Pan dab w kosmosie " by Krzysztof Gradovsky in 1988 turned scenes from the fictional Stanisław Lem - primary school in the building. In 2007, the First Property Group bought the high-rise (more precisely, the owners, the company Oxford Polska). Tenants were or are in addition to ELEKTRIM large companies such as Allianz, Citibank, Kredyt Bank, Polish Post, Polferries, Pernod Ricard and various organizations such as government agencies (eg the Ministry of Regional Development). Today it is rated as Class B office building. The current owner plans, in addition to the construction of a twin tower on the property, a renovation of the Oxford Towers.

Architecture

The building reaches a roof height of 139 meters, with superstructures is 150 meters away. It has 42 floors above ground and 193 parking spaces. The total floor space is approximately 70,000 square feet, the office space 42,000. The skyscraper has a blue and white trim.
