Namaquanum Pachypodium is a plant of the genus Pachypodium in the family of the dogbane family ( Apocynaceae ).
Description
Pachypodium namaquanum is a perennial plant that grows branched or unbranched, sparsely with a distinctly thickened trunk. The stem reaches a height of 1.5 to 2 m and is at the base up to 30 cm wide and tapers upwards to about 9 cm. The bark is silvery gray and spirally provided with tubercles from which arise three pale brown, sharp spines up to 7 cm in length. The leaves are in a rosette at the top of the stem. They are pale green, soft, wrinkled, velvety; elliptic to inversely lanceolate and are 8-12 cm long and 2-4 cm wide.
The flowers are scattered on the top of the plant, they are cup-shaped, 2.5 to 5 mm long and 8-10 mm wide. Your inside is dull purple, the outside of yellowish- green.
The fruits are 2.5 to 4 cm long and contain 4 mm wide, ovate seeds.
Occurrence
The species is widespread in South Africa ( Namaqualand ) in southern Namibia, and in the Northern Cape region. It grows on dry, rocky slopes at altitudes between 300 and 900 m.

A vigorously growing culture of hybrids with the name ' Arid Lands' was bred succulentum with Pachypodium.
