Pakin Atoll

Pakin is a small atoll in the Pacific Ocean about 30 km northwest of the Western Micronesian island of Pohnpei Riffkranzes the. Pakin, together with Pohnpei and 26 km south Ant Atoll, the group of Senjawin Islands.

Geography

The narrow atoll is approximately 10 km long and up to 3.6 km wide. Four vegetated islands can be found on the south-eastern fringing reef; Nikalap, the largest island of the atoll, however, lies in the northwest corner of Pakin.

The total area of the atoll is 24 km ². The lagoon is up to 55 meters deep.

There is only one boat passage into the lagoon on the southwest side of the atoll.

Management

Although 100 to 200 inhabitants live on the atoll, it made never a separate municipality, but part of the municipality ( municipality ) Sokehs, located in the northwest of the island of Pohnpei.
