Palagummi Sainath

P. Sainath ( Palagummi Sainath; * 1957 in Madras) is an Indian journalist.

Life

P. Sainath is the grandson of the politician VV Giri. He describes himself as a reporter and photojournalist with a focus on the social problems, rural affairs, poverty and the impact of globalization on India. The Indian economist Amartya Sen calls him one of the " most important experts in the field of famine and hunger ".

1993 Sainath began with the research on poverty. On foot and by a variety of means of transport he arrived in the ten poorest districts of India. He put over 100,000 km across India back, which 5000 km on foot .. His experiences and insights he finally in his book " Everybody Loves a Good Drought " on paper.
