Palais des Festivals et des Congrès

The Palais des Festivals et des Congrès ( German: Festival and Congress Palace) is a building complex in Cannes, France, throughout the year there are events with a regional, national and international character in the. These include in particular the International Film Festival of Cannes. The Palais offers up to 35,000 m² of meeting space.

History of Ancient casinos

None of the eight casino projects, which were developed in 1899, was successful - all failed because of the resistance of Grand Duke Mikhail Alexandrovich Romanov, who was concerned about public morality. Finally, the City Council awarded the concession on April 5 at Henri Ruhl, director of the Paris Hotel Scribe. The casino, built by the architect Camille Mari, was inaugurated on 28 January 1907 in the presence of the Grand Duke. In 1919 it was expanded and modernized in 1930 by the architect Roger Séassal ( Nice). The Old Casino in 1979, replaced by the new palace.

History

The old Palais des Festivals

The emergence of the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès de Cannes is associated with the film festival: There was no better place, found the first festival from September 20 to October 5, 1946 in the Old Casino instead. The city council therefore decided to build a festival building on the Promenade de la Croisette. 1949 was the first palace, also called Palais Croisette, will be inaugurated. The old building is now no longer exists: it was replaced by a hotel in the Hilton hotel and the Palais Stéphanie.

The new Palais des Festivals

Following the success of the film festival and tourist developments and the first trade fairs ( Reed MIPTV from 1965) decided the city of Cannes in 1979 to build a new palace near the old port. 1982 was the building designed by the architect Sir Hubert Bennett ( London) and François Druet ( Biot ) was to be inaugurated. 1999, it was expanded to 10,000 square meters, which were called Espace Riviera ( Riviera space ). This complex of buildings is currently offering 35,000 m² of meeting space in different halls and auditoriums. The building is .. on the list of historical monuments since 2001
