Band's history and style

Influenced by the American avant-garde band The Residents themselves Palais Schaumburg trying to use a new kind of avant-garde " dance music ". The group used the text of the children's opera "Building a City " by Paul Hindemith for their most famous song and leaned heavily on the Dadaism. Typical lines were:

We lie in bed The mast hit me on the head The mast has me on the head We sweep the forest Morning, the forest is swept Hanged Grey Wolf Grey Wolf

For the first cast included, in addition Holger Hiller and Thomas Fehlmann et al also FM unit (down, Einstürzende Neubauten), which the group but left mid-1981. After two self- released in publishing singles, the group got a record contract with a major label - one of many examples where the music industry wide aufstellte and NDW groups tied by contract that are not served the mainstream. Palais Schaumburg never came across the tip - out status. Within the scene Palais Schaumburg took the role of the supercooled intellectual dance music from Hamburg and thus formed a contrast to the more punk -oriented groups such as the wrong colors from Dusseldorf and Ideal from Berlin who played ironically with motifs of the Schlager. After the debut LP Hiller left the band to start a solo career. With his successor Walther Thielsch the album " Lupa ", which offered a mix of funk, Latin American sounds and avant-garde arose.

After a long break for the trio shrunken Formation tried using the English language " Parlez -Vous Schaumburg " a fresh start, produced by the NDW singer Inga Humpe. The success was, they parted again. Since 2011, Palais Schaumburg find ( in the original line Hiller, Blunck, Fehlmann, Hertwig ) back together to occasional concert appearances.
