Palazzo Altieri

The Palazzo Altieri is a palace in Rome. He stands in Via del Plebiscito in Piazza del Gesù, opposite the church of the Gesù in Rione Pigna. The complex occupies the entire district between Via del Plebiscito, Via Gesù, Via Santo Stefano del Cacco and Via degli Astalli.

The Altieri family had at this place for quite some time individual houses. Beginning of the 17th century could be summed Lorenzo Altieri these individual houses. Until 1655, the architect Giovanni Antonio de Rossi completed the palace in the order of Cardinal Giambattista Altieri. With the election of Emilio Altieri Pope Clement X in 1670 de Rossi got again to expand the palace the order. In an apartment in the palace, the actress Anna Magnani lived for many years until her death in 1973. Their last film appearance in the film Fellini's Roma she had there on their doorstep.
