Palitana State

Palitana was a princely state of British India in the region Gohelwar Kathiawar peninsula in the southwest of the present-day state of Gujarat. Its capital was the site of Palitana. The principality was founded in 1194 by Thakur Sahib Sekaji, a Gohil Rajput of the dynasty of rulers of Bhavnagar. Palitana was 1807-1947 British protectorate. It had in 1921 an area of 777 km ² and 58,000 inhabitants.

On August 15, 1947 Palitana was a member of the State Union of Saurashtra and on 15 February 1948, completed the connection to India ( see History of India). On November 1, 1956 all princely states were dissolved and the State of Bombay incorporated. Due to the division of Bombay on May 1, 1960 came to Palitana Gujarat.
