Palpung Monastery

Palpung Thubten Chökhor Ling (Tibetan: dpal spungs thub bstan chos 'khor gling in short, Palpung Chökhor Ling, T.: dpal spungs chos ' khor gling, also: Palpung ) is the name of a 1727 of 8 Tai Situpa Chokyi Chungne ( 1699/1700-1774) in Dege, Kham, founded the monastery. It is the mother monastery of the Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism in Eastern Tibet and the headquarters of Tai Situpas. In the course of time Palpung Thubten Ling Chökhor developed into a center of " Buddhist ecumenism" ( Rime ). All branch monasteries and centers Palpung Chökhor Thubten Ling also bear the name Palpung and are summarized in the world " Palpung Congregation ". Palpung means "glorious union of study and practice ."

Palpung Thubten Ling Chökhor

Palpung Thubten Chökhor Ling was known for his huge library of more than 324 000 lyrics and an art collection of more than 10,000 thangka paintings. The founder of the monastery - the 8th Tai Situpa - was a great master of " Karma Gadri " - style ( Tib: karma sgar bris ) of thangka painting and the monks Palpung Chökhor Thubten Ling were regarded as a leader in the spiritual painting. The mother monastery of the Karma Kagyu tradition in eastern Tibet and the center of the Rime movement could accommodate over a thousand monks. After printing house in Dege the printing of the monastery Palpung was the second most important traditional printing house in eastern Tibet, were prepared and stored in the printing blocks for block printing. Palpung Sherab Ling

After the 12th Situ Rinpoche had fled at the age of six years to India, he was educated at Rumtek by the 16th Karmapa Gyelwa Rigpe Dorje.
