Pamhagen (Hungarian Pomogy ) is a municipality with 1638 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in northern Burgenland in the district of Neusiedl am See in Austria.

Geography

Pamhagen located on the outskirts of the northern Burgenland sub-region Waasen, meanwhile also Wasen ' ( ungar: Hansag ). The municipality borders on Hungary, where about half of the border along the straight-A channel runs.

History

1268 the village was first mentioned in a document. 1380 Father Johann ecclesiae de Pomog is called. 1547 was a transcript of a spell - Taidings ( Judgment Day ). The first mention of a school takes place 1652.

The county - conscription of the year 1713 gives the first indication on grapevine in Pamhagen. From 1778 to 1780 the construction of the road embankment are done by the Waasen with 14 wooden bridges of Pamhagen to Esterház (length 7.5 km) and the end of the 19th century (1897 ) the establishment of Fertövide - he local railway ( Neusiedler Seebahn ).

A few years later, 1909, the Pamhagener Credit Union is founded.

The place was like the rest of Burgenland to 1920/21 Hungary ( German West Hungary). Since 1898 had to be used because of Magyarization the government in Budapest the Hungarian name Pomogy. This Pamhagen ( Pomogy ) belonged to the county Wieselburg ( Moson Vármegye ).

After the end of World War II German West Hungary was awarded in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919 Austria after tough negotiations. The place belongs since 1921 to the newly founded State of Burgenland (see also history of Burgenland ).

1948 announced the "Iron Curtain " Europe, Pamhagen lost access to basic property on Hungarian territory.

Attractions

  • Steppe zoo Pamhagen: The natural zoo with 50 animals in the pristine desert landscape in Burgenland Seewinkel exists since 1975, covering an area of 13 hectares. It is open from March to end of October.
  • Parish Church:
  • Tuerkenturm: is the landmark of the place. The Turks tower is a former bell tower from the time when the church was still standing outside the town.
