Panaca, Nevada

Panaca is a village in Lincoln County in the U.S. state of Nevada. In 2000 Panaca had a total population of 761 inhabitants.

Panaca was founded in 1864 by Mormons. The village was formerly part of Washington County in the U.S. state of Utah. But since you moved the border in 1866, is one of Panaca Nevada.

It used to be produced in Panaca charcoal for the nearby Bullion Ville (now a ghost town ). The major economic activity is agriculture. Panaca and Boulder City are the only two towns in Nevada, where gambling is prohibited. In addition, Panaca is the only Dry Town throughout Nevada, where the sale of alcohol is prohibited.

The town is crossed by U.S. Highway 93 and is the starting point of Nevada State Route 319 in Utah with continuation in the direction of the Utah State Route 56 from Modena. 3 km west of Panaca is the Lincoln County Airport, a small airfield for general aviation with approximately 1,000 movements per year (as of 2008 ).

Local attractions include the Cathedral Gorge State Park 3 km north-west on U.S. Highway 93
