Lincoln County (Nevada)

Lincoln County is a county located in the state of Nevada in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Pioche.

Geography

The County is located in eastern Nevada, bordering Arizona and Utah. Its area is 27 549 square kilometers, of which 8 square miles is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the County's White Pine County, Nye County, Clark County, Mohave County ( Arizona) as well as Washington County, Iron County, Beaver County and Millard County, Utah.

History

Lincoln County was founded in 1861, when Nevada expanded its boundaries to the east and south.

According to the census of 2000, there were 4,165 people in the county. There were 19,725 households, and 1,540 families. The population density was less than 1 inhabitant per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 91.50 % White, 1.78 % African American, 1.75 % Native American, 0.34 % Asian, 0.02 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 2.69 % from other races groups; 1.92% were descended from two or more races. 5.31% percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 19,725 households out of which 29.00% have children under the age of 18 living with them. 56.20 % were married couples living together, 7.90% had a female householder with no husband. 34.40 % were non-families. 31.30 % of all households and 16.10% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.15 persons.

Based on the county the population was spread out with 30.10 % under the age of 18, 6.00 % from 18 to 24, 21.90 % from 25 to 44 years, 25.90% between 45 and 64 years and 16.20% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 107.90 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 108.20 males.

The median income for a household was $ 31,979, and the median income for a family was $ 45,588. Males have a median income of $ 40,048, women $ 23,571. The per capita income was $ 17,326. 16.50% of the population and 11.50% of families are below the poverty line. 19.60% of those under age 18 and 17.40 % were 65 years or older.
