White Pine County, Nevada

White Pine County is a county located in the state of Nevada in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Ely. Great Lakes are the Ruby Lake and the Goshute Lake.

History

The county was founded in 1869 and named after the white pine of the area. From 1869 to 1887 was the administrative seat of Hamilton County. He was later transferred because of a fire to Ely.

According to the census of 2000, there were 9,181 people in the county. There were 3,282 households and 2,159 families. The population density was less than 1 inhabitant per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 86.35 % White, 4.14 % African American, 3.29 % Native American, 0.78 % Asian, 0.24 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 3.09% from other races groups; 2.10% were descended from two or more races. 10.98% percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 3,282 households out of which 31.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them. 51.80 % were married couples living together, 9.30% had a female householder with no husband. 34.20 % were non-families. 29.60% of all households and 11.50% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 3.01.

Based on the county the population was spread out with 24.20 % under the age of 18, 7.60 % from 18 to 24, 29.90 % from 25 to 44 years, 24.80 % between 45 and 64 years and 13.50% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 128.60 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 138.50 males.

The median income for a household was $ 36,688, and the median income for a family was $ 44,136. Males have a median income of $ 36,083, women $ 26,425. The per capita income was $ 18,309. 11.00% of the population and 10.30% of families are below the poverty line. 11.80% of those under age 18 and 7.60 % were 65 years or older.
