Churchill County, Nevada

Churchill County is a county in the southwest of the state of Nevada in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Fallon.

A special feature of the county is that it is by the Churchill County Communications is the only county in the United States owned and operated the local provider of telecommunications services.

History

Churchill County was founded in 1861 and named after Fort Churchill ( which now, however, in Lyon County is located ). The fort in turn was named after Brigadier General Sylvester Churchill from the Mexican-American War. By 1864, Buckland was in present-day Lyon County headquarters, later it was La Plata ( 1864-1868 ) and Stillwater ( 1868-1904 ) until 1904 Fallon administrative headquarters was. In the 19th century there were attempts to resolve the Churchill County because of its small size, but this was prevented by Representative Lemuel Allen by appeal to the governor after 1875 had already approved the resolution both houses.

Of the 8,912 households out of which 37.20 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 57.70 % were married couples living together, 10.40 % had a female householder with no husband. 27.50% were non-families. 22.50% of all households were individuals and 8.50 % had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.09.

Based on the county the population was spread out with 28.90 % under the age of 18, 8.10 % from 18 to 24, 28.70% from 25 to 44 years, 22.30 % between 45 and 64 years and 11.90% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 100.60 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.10 males.

The median income for a household was $ 40,808, and the median income for a family was $ 46,624. Males have a median income of $ 36,478, women $ 25,000. The per capita income was $ 19,264. 8.70 % of the population and 6.20% of families are below the poverty line. 10.80% of those under age 18 and 7.00% were 65 years or older.
