Lyon County (Nevada)
The Lyon County is a county located in the state of Nevada in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Yerington.
Geography
The county has an area of 5222 square kilometers, of which 59 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Douglas County, Carson City, Storey County, Washoe County, Pershing County, Mineral County and Mono County ( California).
History
The Lyon County was one of the nine Gründungscountys 1861. It was named after Nathaniel Lyon, the first general of the Northern States, who was killed in the American Civil War.

According to the census of 2000, there were 34 501 people in the county. There were 13,007 households, and 9,443 families. The population density was 7 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 88.62 % White, 0.65 % African American, 2.45 % Native American, 0.61 % Asian, 0.14 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 4.59% from other races groups; 2.94% were descended from two or more races. 10.97% percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 13,007 households out of which 33.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them. 58.40 % were married couples living together, 9.10% had a female householder with no husband. 27.40% were non-families. 21.40% of all households and 8.30% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.02.
Based on the county the population was spread out with 27.10 % under the age of 18, 6.60 % from 18 to 24, 27.30 % from 25 to 44 years, 25.20% between 45 and 64 years and 13.70% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 102.50 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.00 males.
The median income for a household was $ 40,699, and the median income for a family was $ 44,887. Males had a median income of $ 34,034, women $ 25,914. The per capita income was $ 18,543. 10.40 % of the population and 7.20 % of families are below the poverty line. 14.10% of those under age 18 and 7.10% were 65 years or older.
