The screws tree -like ( Pandanales ) are an order of monocots.

Features

The representatives of this order are connected by relatively few shared derived characteristics, the relationship of the five families was only found out by molecular genetic studies. This includes a verwachsenes androecium and possibly tenuinucellate ovules. Starchy endosperm is the rule. In the ATPA gene is a 6 base pair deletion.

The Cyclanthaceae and Stemonaceae have in common the rare in monocots fourfold flowers. Cyclanthaceae, Pandanaceae and Triuridaceae have flowers that have at the same time characteristics of inflorescences.

Systematics and distribution

The Pandanales are the sister group of the Dioscoreales.

At this order by APG III includes five families:

  • Disk flowers plants ( Cyclanthaceae )
  • Screw pine plants ( Pandanaceae )
  • Stemonaceae
  • Triuridaceae
  • Velloziaceae
