The Panjshir is a river in eastern Afghanistan.

Geography

In the province of Panjshir the southwestward -flowing river formed the Panjshir Valley. It is perhaps 500 m wide and incised several hundred meters into the surrounding mountains of the Hindu Kush.

From altitudes of 1700 m to over 3000 m in the province of Panjshir coming, flows the river from the mountains, where the output of the Panjshir Valley is a 4000 m high mountain. After he has left the province of Panjshir, it flows east of the provincial capital of Charikar passing through the fertile Kapisa level ( sa: Begram ) to the south. There flows from the west of a river Ghorband. The Panjshir turns to about 20 km towards the east. After 30 km, the Panjshir turns south and flows finally after another 30 km, about 40 km northeast of Kabul, the Kabul River. There is the Sarobi Dam, which is dammed up both rivers and used for energy. The Panjshir is in the plane of the boundary between the provinces of Parwan and Kapisa and finally between Kapisa and Kabul Province.
