Pantomimeteatret

The Pantomimeteatret ( German: Pantomime Theatre ) is an open-air stage in Tivoli, Copenhagen, Denmark. As the name suggests, it is mainly used for performances by mimes in the tradition of classic Commedia dell'arte, which come there daily to the performance. The stage but is also used as a venue for ballet and other dance performances.

History

At the first opening of the Tivoli in 1874 was at the site of the current building long ago a small wooden theater and painted canvases. After a few alterations and major repairs had been decided in 1873, to replace it with a newer, more modern building. Commissioned to design this was the architect Vilhelm Dahlerup (1836-1907), who was busy at that time with the construction of the Det Kongelige Teater. A year later, 1874, bred in the Chinese style outdoor stage then their determination could be handed over.

Architecture

Dahlerup, who had never been even in China, had the inspiration for the building of images retrieved, which he had borrowed from a previously stationed in the Far East Engineering. Special attention was given to the system and the mechanical curtain, for its operation five men are necessary, and unfolds like a peacock's train.

The theater offers, depending on seating 120 people, or about 1,000 standing places.
