The band announced their intention to only work with Norwegians, and went to Moonfog Productions, the label of the Satyricon vocalist Satyr, where they released their albums through Sardonic Wrath (2004); Since 2005, Darkthrone is back with Peaceville under contract. While Transilvanian Hunger was still recorded with Zephyrous, the band consisted only of Fenriz 1995 Nocturno Culto and which form the members of the band to this day. As with the previous Fenriz wrote all the music and played all the instruments, and Nocturno Culto took over the vocals.

The cover shows again a member of the band, this time the silhouette of Nocturno Culto at the forest edge, the back of which some trees; there Darkthrone be referred to in terms of the boycott as "The Most Hated Band in The World" ( the most hated band in the world '). In the booklet, the band refers to the charges against them right-wing accusations ". Darkthrone is Certainly not a nazi belt nor a political band, Those of you who quietly might also think so, you can lick mother mary's asshole in eternity" ( Dark Throne is certainly neither a Nazi nor a political band, those who still think that Mary can lick asshole in eternity '). Style

The album was recorded with the same equipment as its predecessor, Transilvanian Hunger, the sound was but " again pleasant ", " smoothed slightly and offers a slightly clearer vagueness ", but was subsequently produced by Rock Hard as miserable referred. The band also broke with the style of previous albums: bazooka is on average slower, heavier, and more similar to the early albums always mentioned as an influence by Darkthrone band Celtic Frost. The rougher singing voice is in contrast to the typical for Norwegian Black Metal, backed by reverberation Screaming of the three previous albums " a somewhat clearer croak ," the " as the wailing ghost of a certain Tom G. Warrior " sounds. Warrior expressed in several interviews that he was " the obvious CELTIC FROST / LIGHT HAMMER influences in the music of DARKTHRONE not approve, because he says that CELTIC FROST was always breaking new ground and DARKTHRONE they copied only in principle ." Interviewed Then answered Fenriz, Warrior 'm right, what bazooka concerned, where " a couple of tracks [ ... ] according to CELTIC FROST come ", " but apart from that " have Darkthrone his opinion a " signature sound ", and added, Celtic Frost have trodden with Cold Lake definitely new territory. The reef of the penultimate track Quintessence, whose lyrics were written by Varg Vikernes, also appears in the song Noregsgard the band Storm, was also involved in the Fenriz; Snø above Granskog, a setting of a poem by Tarjei Vesaas, the first electronic piece of Darkthrone.

In Ablaze, the album was described as " absolutely devastating ," the METAL GLORY Magazine describes the album as " [s ] impel, cold, fast, great atmosphere and with keienr [ sic] production. THAT is the essence of black metal and it also the umpteenth DIMMU BORGIR clone is able to change that! " Bazooka is considered the last classic of the band as" the final farewell dirge of a band that should dive into the waters of mediocrity. DARKTHRONE 's [ sic] last obligatory album ". In return, Mr Matthias wrote in the Black Metal Bible, the album was " [k ] an outstanding release," but behind Darkthrone and their sound put "a certain BM Philosophy, "which was the album in his opinion justice; meanwhile the band but " clearly lost ground, opposite of the successor competition".
